HS Player Recruitment
by posted 01/16/2022

Sorry I did not include this in the already too wordy email previously sent.  We currently have 16 guys registered:

PJ Kottkamp, Brody Damrill, Carson Meadimber, David Nagy, Che Brueseke, Max Middlebrook, Teddy Skendzel, Aaron Graybill, Brady Burkhart, Ronan Presler, Sam Troxel, Ethan Breiler, Ian Strasser, Cam Hanks, Saul Zabukovic, and Sully Hauser.

We are still missing Elliott Knight and Joe Anella from last year's team.  There are some rising freshman from last year's 8th grade group who are unregistered.  There's also a handful of other guys who I've heard are planning to play, but are not registered.

I encourage all of you to reach out to people who are not yet on the registered list, but should be.  Also, look at your friend group - who are the athletes (football, basketball, hockey, etc.) that don't have a spring sport?  An optimal number of guys is 20-25 - let's try to get a few more people registered.

Week of 1/17/2022-1/23/2022
by posted 01/16/2022

Hello everyone, I wanted to share a couple bits of information as well as this week's planned HS schedule.

1.  Attendance Expectations - This is an important time of year for our team so that we can establish team work ethic and comradery.  Also, in dusting off the cobwebs now, we will be able to more efficiently focus on team concepts once we are consistently practicing outdoors.  With this said, it is our expectation that players make all scheduled events (practices, lifts, meetings, film sessions, etc).  We understand that there may be schedule conflicts that prevent attendance.  It is the player's responsibility to notify a coach in advance that they will not be in attendance.

2.  Formation of NILC (Northern IN Lacrosse Conference) - local teams have agreed to join and form a lacrosse conference for northern IN (varsity and club teams).  This is exciting because it allows us to compete for divisional and conference championships independent of the IHSLA state championship that separates club from varsity programs.  Also, there will be All-Conference teams and awards (1st/2nd/3rd Teams and Honorable Mention NILC, Offensive POY, Defensive POY, and overall NILC POY).  Here is a rundown of programs who are joining:

West Division - Chesterton, Crown Point, LaPort, La Lumiere, Munster, and Victory Christian

Central Division - Argos, Elkhart, Marian, Mishawaka, Penn, St. Joseph, and South Bend

East Division - Bishop Dwenger, Carroll, Concordia, Homestead, Leo, Northridge, and Snider

3.  Schedule for the week:

Monday - off (MLK)

Tuesday - practice 4:30-5:30PM (location TBD) - please note, the weather forecast looks reasonable so we will practicing whether indoor or outdoor.  I will post location by end-of-day Monday.

Wednesday - parent/player Zoom meeting 5:00-6:00PM

              https://notredame.zoom.us/j/99828263328?pwd=Z1lNMkswMDB6ZVphd0RWMk83NjNSQT09

Thursday - team lift at Primal SB 4:00-5:00PM

Friday - off

Saturday - indoor practice at Emmons 9:00AM-10:00AM, team lift at Primal SB10:30AM-12:00PM

Last season, we really showed the IN lacrosse community that a group of kids in South Bend, not from one of the big name/big ego/sexy schools, can compete with anyone - we can bet that teams have us circled on the calendar expecting us to have a down year after losing several key players from last season.  Now is the time to start consistently putting in the work to show them that we're not going anywhere.

Hello everyone, securing indoor space has proven more challenging than previously expected.  With that said, we will be holding another team lift tonight from 4P-5P at Primal South Bend.  Saturday from 9A-10A, there will be indoor practice at Emmons School in Mishawaka (helmet, gloves, stick, and non-marking shoes should be worn), followed by a team lift from 10:30A-12P at Primal South Bend.  We will plan on practicing next week, outdoors if we have to.  If any of you are in need of loaner gear, please email sbbearslax@gmail.com or text 574-274-9425 so that we can make arrangements.  Please remember that as of 1/1/2022, all players are required to have new NOCSAE certified, commotio cordis protective, shoulder pads.  If you have not updated your equipment, I suggest that you do so immediately.

We're still working through some issues with practice space.  Hope to have this resolved in the next 24hrs.  With that said, here is the planned schedule for the week:

Monday (1/10/2022) - off (enjoy College Football Playoff)

Tuesday (1/11/2022) - practice or zoom session film review from 4:30-5:30

Wednesday (1/12/2022) - off

Thursday (1/13/2022) - practice or zoom session film review from 4:30-5:30

Friday (1/14/2022) - off

Saturday (1/15/2022) - team lift from 10:30-11:30, possible practice 9:00-10:00

Sunday (1/16/2022) - off

Remember that you can easily sync team schedule to your phone calendar using the SSU Play app (open app, click more on bottom right, select team calendars, then subscribe to HS Boys 2022 calendar).  Returning players/families who used this app last year will need to log out and log back in to advance to the 2022 season.

I will get information to all of you with confirmations of practice as soon as I hear from SBCSC, but wanted to give you all the heads up so you can manage family schedules.
